Virat Kohli has been synonymous with consistency and excellence in cricket in recent years. Whether it was limited-overs cricket or Test cricket or even the IPL, he is a force to be reckoned with and will remain so for years to come, with his skill and commitment.
While Virat has set the IPL on fire on several occasions in the past, his performance in the ongoing edition, though better than most of his peers, has not been up to King Kohli's standards. He scored 423 runs in 12 innings at an average of 35.25, with a best of 100 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
But still, here are some records held by the current captain of Team India in IPL.
(Disclaimer: Records are based on player stats as of April 29, 2019.)
5371 Runs - Most Runs in IPL:
He tops the list of most runs in IPL with his 5371 runs in 167 innings at an average of 38.09 and a strike rate of 131.06.
973 Runs – Most Runs in a Single IPL Season:
Virat was at his best in IPL 2016 where he scored a whopping 973 runs in 16 innings at a staggering average of 81.08. He scored 4 hundreds and 7 fifties on his way to becoming the Orange Cap winner in the season.
229 Runs - Highest Run Partnership:
With a team that has boasted Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and the likes of Chris Gayle, Brendon McCullum and Yuvraj Singh in the past, Royal Challengers Bangalore have always been expected to put up a huge partnership, so the highest partnership at running from the side is no surprise.
Virat teamed up with AB de Villiers to put together a 229-run partnership for the second wicket against Gujarat Lions in IPL 2016. Virat scored 109 while ABD was unbeaten on 129. The record for the second highest partnership by runs was also held by the pair with an unbeaten 215 runs against Mumbai Indians in the 2015 edition of IPL.
3 - Most 200+ partnerships in IPL:
There have been a total of four 200+ partnerships in IPL and Virat features in three of them. A couple were with AB de Villiers (229 and 215*) and one was with Chris Gayle (204*) against Delhi Daredevils in IPL 2012. The remaining 200+ partnership was between Adam Gilchrist and Shaun Marsh (206 runs), for Kings XI Punjab against , ironically, RCB in IPL 2011.
