Here are the Apple Mac computers compatible with macOS 14 Sonoma

Hi there! Here's the list of all Apple Mac computers that'll be compatible with the newly announced macOS 14 Sonoma update:

Wondering Whether or Not Your iMac, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, or Mac Pro will Work with macOS 14 Sonoma Beta?

A new version of macOS was just announced at WWDC23, and it's called Sonoma. If you're a developer, you can download the software update utility from the developer portal right now and enjoy the new beta on your Mac in under an hour. But before you do that, it's important to know which Mac models are compatible with the new macOS Sonoma update.

According to Apple's website, the following Macs are compatible with the latest desktop operating system:

  • iMac 2019 and later
  • Mac Pro 2019 and later
  • iMac Pro 2017
  • Mac Studio 2022 and later
  • MacBook Air 2018 and later
  • Mac mini 2018 and later
  • MacBook Pro 2018 and later

Compared to macOS Ventura, Apple has axed a lot of Macs this year:

  • iMac 2017 and later
  • Mac Pro 2019 and later
  • iMac Pro 2017
  • Mac mini 2018 and later
  • MacBook Air 2018 and later
  • MacBook 2017 and later
  • MacBook Pro 2017 and later

To find out which Mac model you have, click on the Apple logo in the menu bar at the top and then click on "About this Mac." The Mac model and year will be displayed at the top. Just compare it to the compatible devices list from Apple to see whether or not you'll be able to install the beta.

At the time of writing, we can only install the beta version of macOS Sonoma on our compatible devices. The full and final version of the software will be available later this year. When the update does arrive, usually a patched version of macOS arrives alongside it - unofficial, of course - that adds support for older Apple computers that are not in the compatibility list.

If you have a Mac lying around that is not supported by macOS Sonoma, wait for the patched, unofficial version to arrive before you panic-buy a new one. Usually, the patched version works just fine and is fit for day-to-day use. You can boost the performance of the update by installing the patched version on an SSD.
